The King took his responsibilities

e L King Albert II gave during this Christmas 2010, the second most important speech of his reign. The first was very personal: it was assumed, in the eyes of the outside world, the existence of an illegitimate daughter and a man's life. The second is very political, almost giving the track-making, directing the parties to negotiate, and the Flemish and Francophone, sealing a compromise. It is a gesture, very hard for a sovereign who is generally prohibited, rightly taken policy initiatives untagged by the Prime Minister and that is confined to ecumenical platitudes. Say today that "all the elements are on the table" for a deal is to get wet and exceptionally personally to the parties that still leave people to think they might fail. Is he out of his role? Some will claim it and be offended. King in fact took its responsibilities in a very special moment, where he plays the only federal authority that in the moment can not be placed in brackets. There are times when real dangers threatening - and that's the case: separation of a country growing resentment among sections of the population, verbal excesses in political camps - where the bodies, which are in- above the fray, do
can be silent. Those who accuse
Albert II of siding with the French in this speech is dead wrong.
King is just saying out loud what many think, both South and North, but dare not proclaim the fear is so great to be regarded as traitors to their cause if they signed a compromise. The King decides otherwise the same words as those of the European Council president, Herman Van Rompuy little suspect had to ride for francophones. Albert II takes advantage of Belgium, whose existence has based its legitimacy. It also does not freeze, even valid actant profound transformation in the movement towards a kind of insider confederalism in Belgium. On Friday, the King pointed the obvious: the great reform of state is here at hand. We must have the courage to recognize and act. To finally go to something else.
